Ballet
is a type of stage dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century and that later became a form of concert dance in France and Russia. Students are strongly encouraged to audition for the annual musicals of Elevate Productions, the resident theater company of the Colorado Ballet Society. Ballet has had a worldwide influence and has defined the fundamental techniques used in many other dance genres and cultures. Cinderella will exchange her glass slippers for ballet shoes this Sunday, when the World Ballet performs the classic fairytale at the Pikes Peak Center. With a multinational cast of 40 professional ballet dancers, principal dancer Katherine Malkovich will play the role of Cinderella, alongside Leonardo Celegato, rising star of Italian classical ballet, in the role of the Prince. A celebration of the Colorado Springs Conservatory's past and present and a glimpse into its future, with more information to come.Students receive additional training, on a rotational basis, in other disciplines such as floor bar, jazz, modern art, physical conditioning, Pilates, yoga and Nashville Ballet repertoire. Every year courses are offered in technique, punte, variations, pas de deux, Pilates, progressive ballet technique, strength training, contemporary modern allegro masculine repertoire and much more in a carefully designed progression for dancers of all ages and stages. These styles are represented and portrayed in many full-length ballets such as Swan Lake and Don Quixote. It will be performed by more than 140 children pre-professional dancers and guest artists and will be presented by Littleton Youth Ballet which is Littleton's only non-profit youth ballet company. Dance classes with characters are very similar to ballet classes in the sense that they start with a full bar before going to the center with the exception that everything is taught within a specific cultural style.
