“Our children are lucky to have your organization bring performances in the community because many of them do not have the opportunity or income to travel to see a dance performance. You have provided them with the experience to see and imagine other opportunities they may not have thought would be open to them.”

– Larry Leatherman, Principal
Emerald Elementary School
Broomfield, CO

“Through this project, our children experience the arts in a new and different way. We commend Ballet Nouveau for their ongoing effort to connect dance and the arts with the community.”

– Judy Sapegin, Music Specialist
Mountain View Elementary
Broomfield, CO

“Thank you for enriching the lives of our students with professional dance performances, dance sessions, and education about art, dance, and music…this is an opportunity they would not have experienced otherwise…these experiences will stay with them a lifetime!”

– Barb Stallings, Principal
North Star Elementary School
Thornton, CO

“These educationally-based performances are interactive and engaging… I can see developmentally how dance is becoming part of their vocabulary. The kids are inspired by the level of integrity of the professional dancers. It's what we need in public schools!”

– Deborah Gough, Music Teacher
Westview Elementary
Northglenn, CO

Outreach

Education and Outreach Partner

Our educational outreach programs bring free arts programming to 20,000 residents each year. We provide year-long partnerships to four elementary schools (Broomfield and Adams Counties), bringing dance into the lives of over 2,100 students and supporting the schools’ curricular goals through dance education. We provide free programs to additional schools and community groups throughout the year, and we give well over 1,000 free tickets each season to a diverse group of low-income, senior and at-risk individuals.

While we provide a variety of programs for many schools throughout the metro area, the cornerstone of our educational outreach is year-long partnerships with public elementary schools. These arts-to-schools partnerships bring the most effective model of collaborative arts education into four north metro elementary schools. Each school receives two lecture/demonstrations in their own facility, two performances where students are bussed to a theatre, and two in-depth residencies designed to enhance and support the school’s specific curricular priorities.

The long-term nature of these partnerships provides opportunity for in-depth learning and exploration. Ongoing experiences with Ballet Nouveau Colorado professional artists and teachers encourage students to think more critically about the art they see, be more willing to participate in artistic activities, and learn through non-traditional modalities.

Our partner schools this season are:

Coronado Hills Elementary, Thornton
Federal Heights Elementary, Federal Heights

The Ugly Duckling Anti-Bullying Program

The Ugly Duckling is a traditional story that is familiar to all young students, but Ballet Nouveau adds a new twist! Set in modern times to the music of Cyndi Lauper, this show inspires and educates students on what bullying is, why it is important to embrace each other’s differences, and how to work with one another as a team.

Developed in collaboration with Creating Caring Communities (developers of Bully-Proofing Your School), The Ugly Duckling Anti-Bullying Program includes classroom exercises, live theatre performance and discussions, and post-performance reflections.

Recommended for grades K-5
Length: 50 minutes
Live theatre performances will be held:

Iver C. Ranum High School
2401 W. 80th Ave.
Denver, CO 80221
